Important Note. The information in this document is provided ‘as is’ and serves as a guideline for hardware companies.
In case you are interested in using the Ipad to access the wInner software, please consult your hardware vendor for purchase and configuration of your hardware Platform. Planet wInner does not provide support for Server, Hardware or Ipad configuration.
You will also need to be familiar with how an Ipad functions. Planet wInner does not support Ipad functional operation. As a result it is important that you learn how the Ipad works and that staff that needs to use the Ipad will receive training as well.
In order to use wInner on the Apple Ipad, your hardware platform needs to have:
- A Server running Windows Server.
- Windows Remote Desktop. Windows Server comes with this module and allows 2 simultaneous connections (sessions). If you require more sessions (so more than 2 simultaneous connections) you need to purchase “Microsoft Remote Desktop Client Access Licenses” or CAL’s.
- A wireless network (both Server and Ipad need to be connected to this network)
- An Apple Ipad with Wifi option.
- The Apple Ipad needs to be configured to connect to the Wireless network.
- An Apple application called “Itap Rdp”. This application offers Remote Desktop Connectivity to your Windows server. You will need to buy this application using the Ipple Appstore. Without this application you will not be able to connect to your Windows server.

In order to use wInner on the Apple Ipad, in relation to the wInner software, you need to:
- Obtain the software license for the wInnner system.
- For each simultaneous user session, you need one wInner Software License, per module, for Remote Desktop. So if you wish to use wInner POS on 2 Ipads simultaneously, you will need to obtain 2 “wInner POS licenses for Remote Desktop”. The same rules applies if you wish to use for example wInner Front Office on the Ipad.
Here’s how we configured the Ipad to use the Windows Remote Desktop system:
1) Wireless Network
We configured the Ipad to use the wireless Network.
Open the Settings on the Ipad by tapping
this icon on the main screen of the Ipad.
- In the Settings screen, select Wi-Fi and ensure you enter your Wireless network details in order to connect to your wireless network.

2) Next we switched off the auto lock feature.
The auto lock feature will lock your Ipad after a specified amount of time which may also break the wireless connection to the server. This will have as a result that you will need to reconnect to the server each time it was locked and this may be a nuisance.
In order to disable this feature, tap General in the settings list, and ensure that the option Auto-Lock is set to Never.

3) Next we locked the rotation of the Ipad.
In default mode, The Ipad will automatically rotate its screen when you rotate the Ipad device. When used with wInner, this may cause issues as the wInner software is not designed to work in Portrait mode.
In order to lock the screen, tap General in the settings list, and ensure that the option Lock Rotation is set to Checked.

Locking the rotation on the Ipad is done with the slide button at the top right hand side of the Ipad. So in order to lock the screen rotation, slide the lock button to the right.

Once you slide the button to the right, you will see a lock icon appear on the screen. When you see the icon, it means the screen rotation has been locked.

4) Install Itap Rdp and configure Remote Desktop Connection.
First purchase the App Itap RDP from the App store.
Once installed, start the Application by tapping the Itap RDP icon:
First we will define the connection to the Windows Remote Desktop Server. Tap the option Add Manual Bookmark.

In order to define your connection bookmark following information needs to be entered:
(1) Information relating to the Host server (Remote Desktop Server). Here you have to enter a Label (For example the name of your hotel), Host (this can be the server network name, or the IP address of the server), and the Port which is default 3389.
(2) Information relating to the credentials. Here you can predefine a Windows Login account that needs to be used when this connection is made. You can enter a Windows user account as well as the Password. If you set the option Store Credentials, the password will be saved an the connection to the server will be followed by an automatic login of the Windows user that was configured here.
(3) In the settings, make sure the the screen resolution is set to 1024x768x16.

Next configure the advance settings. In the Bookmark screen, Tap the Advanced option.

In the advanced settings, set the option Automatic Reconnect to 1 Minute (this is the minimum setting.)

When finished tap the Bookmark
button followed by the Save
button.
Once the bookmark added, it appears in the left column. See next screenshot.

5) Connect to the Remote Desktop Server.
In order to make the connection, tap the bookmark in the left column, and tap the Connect button.

The connection will now be established to the Windows Remote Desktop Server.
When you have configured the Windows user account using the explanation provided in the wInner Pocket POS manual, wInner POS will start automatically.

6) Using wInner POS on the Ipad.
It is important to understand the use of the Ipad with ItapRDP.
The Ipad has no keyboard and works 100% via the use of the touchscreen. Therefore there are some gestures that you will need to understand in order to comfortably use Itap RDP with wInner.
a) Invoke the on-screen keyboard.
Whenever you need to enter text, you can invoke an onscreen keyboard by dragging 3 finger verticaly over the screen:
The onscreen keyboard will now be displayed.

If you wish to hide the keyboard again, tap this button on the keyboard:
If you want to type numbers on the keyboard, tap this button:
Whenever you need to enter text, you can simply call the keyboard with the procedure as explained above.
For example when you need to enter a description for an open POS article:
